Why is fibre important as part of a balanced diet?

Vetta SMART Pasta and Vetta SMART Flour both contain added oat fibre, a natural source of insoluble fibre that can assist in maintaining good gut health. Insoluble fibre is a type of fibre that is not dissolved in water and can help with supporting good digestive health.

Most Australians do not consume enough fibre. Australian Dietary Guidelines recommend a daily fibre intake of 25-30g for adults. One serving of Vetta SMART Fibre Pasta contains 6g of fibre, or 20-24% of the Recommended Daily Intake (RDI).

For more information on fibre and gut health, visit Dietitians Australia.

Why is protein important as part of a balanced diet?

Vetta SMART Protein Pasta contains added wheat gluten, a natural source of plant-based protein.
Protein is an essential macronutrient that serves as the primary building block for muscles, bones and skin, as well as being necessary for metabolic function, immune function and energy production.

Protein may assist in building muscle mass and supporting bone health. It may also assist with weight management, by promoting a feeling of fullness and helping reduce cravings. One serving of Vetta SMART Protein Pasta contains 24g of protein.

For more information on the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) for protein, visit Dietitians Australia.

What is the Glycemic Index and what does low GI mean?

The Glycemic Index (GI) is a ranking system that classifies carbohydrate-containing foods based on how quickly they raise blood sugar levels. In Australia, the GI is used as a tool to help people make informed food choices to manage their blood glucose levels and potentially aid in weight management. This is particularly helpful for people with diabetes.

Carbohydrates that break down slowly, such as oats or specially marked pasta products like Vetta SMART Fibre Pasta <link to fibre product page>, will release glucose gradually into the bloodstream. Such foods have low glycaemic indexes (low GI). Low GI foods will prolong the digestion process because of their slower breakdown, which in turn may assist with feeling fuller for longer.

A low GI rating does not mean you can eat a larger serve of that food – the total amount of carbs and energy (kilojoules) consumed is still important.

For more information about the Glycemic Index (GI), visit BetterHealth Victoria.

Are Vetta Products certified low GI?

Selected products from the Vetta SMART Fibre Pasta range have been independently tested for their glycemic index and labelled ‘low GI’ accordingly. GI testing was conducted by the University of Sydney, more specifically by the Sydney University GI Research Service (SUGiRS).

Are Vetta Pasta and Vetta Flour products gluten free?

Is Vetta Pasta / Vetta Flour suitable for vegans?

Vetta Pasta and Vetta Flour do not contain animal products and therefore are vegan friendly or suitable for vegans. That being said, please note all Vetta Pasta products may contain traces of egg and milk, and are labelled as such due to shared manufacturing equipment.

Should I weigh my pasta cooked or uncooked?

This is a question we often get. The nutritional value of our pasta as labelled on pack is based on uncooked (dry) weight. The thing is, the nutritional value of 100g of pasta will remain the same when cooked, even though it will weigh more because of the added weight of the water. In other words: the water used for cooking the pasta will add weight to the pasta, but it will not affect its nutritional value.

Most people calculating macros find it easier to weigh their pasta dry (uncooked), but it’s a matter of personal preference. As long as you calculate nutritional values based on the uncooked dry weight, you’re good to go!

Why does Vetta SMART Protein Pasta take longer to cook?

Vetta SMART Protein Pasta has a slightly longer cook time because of the added gluten content of the pasta which delivers extra protein. Please note that cook time may vary depending on the shape of the pasta, so always refer to packet instructions for the appropriate cook time.

How do I use Vetta SMART Protein Flour?
